Registrations now open: Due Diligence for Registrars, 7 & 8 February 2012

The concept of due diligence is an important corner stone for museums managing risk, and is fundamental in the documentation of museum collections. So what are the reasonable steps that museums need to take to fulfil their duty of care in managing their collections and exhibitions? To explore what due diligence means in registration practice the ARC is pleased to host an in depth workshop, Due Diligence for Registrars facilitated by UK expert Freda Matassa on 7 & 8 February 2012.

Places in the workshop are limited to encourage discussion and participation, so the workshop will be offered twice on the two days preceding the 2012 ARC Conference.

Notice of 2012 Conference – Sign & Return: Informing Collection Documentation

Sign & Return: Informing Collection Documentation

National Gallery of Victoria, VMIA Risk Management & Insurance

8-10 February 2012

Registration documentation has developed substantially from the days of manual registers and form filling, now playing a vital role in all aspects of collection risk management.  Contemporary collection documentation is shaped by an environment that demands ever increasing levels of due diligence and transparency, and it also takes its cue from innovation in technology, changes in law and government regulation, and increasing external requests to assess collection information.

This conference aims to scope the environment, processes and law that informs the way registrars document collections and exhibitions. It will traverse key aspects of collection management such as stocktaking and valuation, identify some of the key issues facing those responsible for loan and exhibition registration, and discuss innovations in information management.  Expect some frank and pragmatic discussion from a range of national and international speakers. We are delighted to welcome Rebecca Buck, registrar and editor of The New Museum Registration Methods, back to Australia to present the keynote address; she will be joined by a host of international and local registrars and industry professionals.

Member’s login & ARC website update

One of the benefits of being an Individual, Associate or Commercial member of the ARC is accessing the member’s login on the ARC website.

The member’s only section of the website is an invaluable tool for accessing the professional details of Local, National and International colleagues. As a member you can edit you own contact information, have access to other members and post a photograph so others can put a face to that name.

We are currently updating the ARC website and if your membership has lapsed for the 2010/2011 period your access will become inactive during January 2011.

If you are unsure of your membership status or have misplaced your login information please contact me on alisonb@phm.gov.au for assistance.

ARC 2010 Membership Renewals

Over the next two weeks current ARC members will receive their ARC 2010/2011 financial year membership invoice. Invoices will be posted to your current membership contact so if you have made any changes over the last 12 months please contact Alison Brennan as soon as possible via email to alisonb@phm.gov.au

The ARC are streamlining processes and as such, all membership fees and other payments are preferred as an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). ARC bank account details will be on your invoice along with simple instructions on how to let us know you have made the transaction.

Of course if this method of payment does not suit your organisation we can still process credit cards and also accept cheques.

If you are not a member but would like to become one go to the ARC website members page http://www.registrars.org.au/membership/and fill out an application form.
